American Diving Dogs Come to Dog Days of Summer 2013
We are so excited that American Diving Dogs will be at Dog Days of Summer 2013.
So what is American Diving Dogs?
We are dog enthusiasts with a passion for doing exciting things with our dogs. It was our dogs' natural love of the sport of dock diving that launched the idea for American Diving Dogs.
Having extensively competed in the sport, our team brings more than three decades of collective experience to our events providing a unique perspective and enthusiasm that no other dock diving organization does.
American Diving Dogs is committed to animal rescue and believes that dock diving provides an opportunity to advance responsible pet ownership by doing something fun that also exercises a dog's mind and body. In addition to putting on first class events, we feel it is important to promote rescued animals that are available for adoption and to raise money needed for their care. To that end, we are proud to say that all profits from American Diving Dogs' events go directly to non-profit animal rescue organizations.
Our Goals
We strive to bring dock diving events to local communities where the whole family, including the family dog, can participate in a competitive, yet friendly and supportive environment. Making sure everyone, especially the dogs, is having fun is our highest priority.
What is Dock Diving
Dock diving is a sport where dogs jump off a platform into a pool of water to retrieve a toy. The length of the dogs' jumps are measured. In the High Dive, the dogs' jump height is measured.
Who Can Compete
Dogs of all sizes, breeds and abilities can come to compete. As long as your dog likes to fetch and enjoys the water, he or she can be the next great American Diving Dog. There is no need to have any prior experience or training. Our accomplished staff will be there to help anyone new to the sport get started.
What We Bring To Your Event
* Non-stop entertainment. The dogs compete and practice all day.
* A fan base that will draw competitors and spectators from all over the region, increasing foot traffic and revenue for the event, facility and the vendors.
* Additional advertising through American Diving Dogs' mailing distribution and social media outlets.
* Goodwill in the community for supporting an organization dedicated to animal rescue.
* A professional event ran by some of the most experienced competitors and trainers in the sport.
American Diving Dogs will be setup on Friday for Dog Days of Summer and will provide two days of great competition. If you are interested in entering American Diving Dogs is taking Pre Registration at the following link:

Sheep Herding DemosHerding Instinct Testing
So what is Herding Instinct Testing?
Organized herding instinct tests came about as a way to provide an accessible and standardized introduction to herding for owners and dogs who might otherwise have little opportunity in this area. It is simply the supervised exposure of an inexperienced dog to livestock, in the same way that in a home situation a trainer might introduce a herding prospect to stock as the preliminary to beginning training.
The tests did not arise with the idea that they could ever substitute for the gradual introduction to herding that traditionally formed the basis of the herding dog's experience. It should be kept in mind that these tests have great limitations. A private session or lesson with a trainer allows for more individual attention. And passing an instinct test does not "prove" the dog is a good herder. Tests only provide a glimpse of potential. It can happen that a dog that does well at a test soon loses interest. Or a very keen dog may prove to be difficult to use as a herding dog because it has an overexcitable or uncooperative nature or may even be too aggressive for the stock. It can also happen that a dog that shows little interest the first time it is exposed to stock, or even after several times, suddenly has the light go on and proves to be a capable herder. Only time, training and experience with provide a clear picture of a dog's abilities
Although a dog need not have had previous herding training before taking part in a test, a prior introduction to livestock under the supervision of an experienced trainer is desirable, and in any case the dog should have had training to come and to stop (sit or down) on command. The tester, a person experienced with stockdog training, supervises the introduction of the dogs to livestock, usually sheep but sometimes ducks, geese or goats.
At Dog Days of Summer Herding instinct Testing will be offered. The cost for the test is $30.00 and will be offered from 9:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Appointments are on a first come first serve basis.

Flyball Demos Provided by Woof Gang Flyball Team
What is Flyball? Flyball is a relay race with 4 dogs on a team. The courses consists of a starting line, 4 hurdles spaced 10 feet apart and a box. The first hurdle is 6 feet from the start line and the box is 15 feet from the last hurdle for a 51 foot overall length. The dogs jump the hurdles and steps on a spring loaded box that shoots out a tennis ball. The dog catches the tennis ball and then runs back over the 4 hurdles. When the dog crosses the starting line the next dog goes. The first team to have all 4 dogs run without errors wins the heat. Tournaments are usually organized in either a double elimination or round robin format. Double elimination is usually best of 3 or best of 5. Round robin is usually best 3 out of 5 and the first team to win 3 heats receives 1 point towards their standing in the tournament. The hurdles' height are dependent on the height of the dogs in the team -- 4" below the shoulder height of the shortest dog. 8" is the minimum height and 16" is the maximum height.

The sport celebrates the bond between handler and dog, by allowing them to work together.
There are many forms of competitions that will be demonstrated at Dog Days of Summer from Toss and fetch, Freestyle and long distance. You won't want to miss Sydney and CJ Fithian and others of their team that will be providing the Frisbee demos at Dog Days of Summer.

Agility Demos
Provided by The Pet Prescription Team
It is one of the fastest growing dog sports in the USA!
Agility is a sport that appeals to all dog lovers - from young people to senior citizens. It has great spectator appeal. Agility is designed to demonstrate a dog's willingness to work with its handler in a variety of situations. It is an athletic event that requires conditioning, concentration, training and teamwork. Dog and handlers negotiate an obstacle course racing against the clock. The AKC offers three types of agility classes.
The first, Standard Class, includes contact objects such as the dog walk, the A-frame, and seesaw. Each of the contact obstacles has a "safety zone" painted on the object and the dog must place at least one paw in that area to complete the obstacle. The second is Jumpers with Weaves. It has only jumps, tunnels and weaves poles with no contact objects to slow the pace. The third is FAST, which stands for Fifteen and Send Time. This class is designed to test handler and dog teams' strategy skill, accuracy, speed and distance handling.
We are happy to have many great handlers on hand at Dog Days of Summer to demonstrate the sport of agility and answer any questions you might have on how to get involved in this exciting sport!
If you have any questions on Agility or how and where classes are in the Southern California area please contact us at: 562-694-8090

NoseWork
A new addition at Dog Days of Summer will be Nose Work Demo's provided by DogPACT.
What is "Nose Work?"
Also known as canine scent work, Nose Work trains dogs to identify the location of a "target" scent by using their natural sense of smell. Handlers (that's you!) learn to "read" their dog's body language so that they can tell when their dogs are truly identifying the target scent and not just guessing.
The most attractive thing about this new sport is the broad array of dogs and handlers that can do it. In essence, if your dog has a nose, he can play this game. You don't need a specific breed of dog to do well in Nose Work. Anyone who takes their dogs on a walk knows the allure of all the fascinating smells dogs encounter that we are clueless about!
Even dogs who don't get along with other dogs, are fearful of the real world outside their front door, and dogs who are easily distracted in traditional group classes do well in Nose Work classes. This is because each dog is worked separately while his/her classmates are crated away from the working area. This allows each dog to concentrate on the task at hand instead of other often overwhelming environmental factors. Handlers can relax, too, and build their confidence and have fun without worrying about anyone else.
Handlers for this sport come in all sizes and shapes as well. Physical fitness and fancy footwork are not critical to this sport as they are in some other dog sports. This makes Nose Work accessible to many dogs and their people. This sport, in essence, simply requires a human team member who enjoys the simple pleasures of seeing their dog have a good time, without all the equipment and more complex training that is required in many of the other dog sports. The most strenuous part of the sport is running behind or along with your dog as he is working a scent.
You won't want to miss the Nose Work demo's to see if this is something you might like to do with your 4 legged friend.

Gourmet Food Trucks at Dog Days
Everybody loves the Gourmet Food Trucks
Piaggio
ABOUT
First and only Orange County Argentine food truck. Since November 2009 the Chimichurri Truck has been serving empanadas, skirt steak tacos, chimichurri, sausage and lomito sandwiches, steak and chimi fries, dulce de leche. Chef Piaggio on board at your service!
ABOUT PIAGGIO
It started with the empanada...
Chef Piaggio has been making his signature Argentine empanadas for almost 30 years. The recipe, from a remote little town in the middle of the vast pampas, was passed on to him by his uncle's aunt Mary, and remains one of the tastiest Argentine recipes of the hundreds of empanadas recipes around.
Piaggio develops a tropical beat...
In 1982 Piaggio took this little tasty recipe to Bahia, in northeastern Brazil. There he introduced the empanada to his restaurant patrons in Praia do Forte, then a nascent eco-resort favored by vacationing Brazilians and Europeans.
During his twelve years in Bahia, Piaggio perfected the meat grilling techniques that are his trademark and he incorporated the Afro-Brazilian cooking styles and tastes of the area into his evolving cuisine.
The empanada comes to California...
The empanada followed Piaggio to California where it was the star of his California Rice and Empanada Factory restaurant in Laguna Beach. That tasty turnover became the mainstay item in his subsequent Argentine and Brazilian steakhouses and continues to be a crowd pleaser.
How it all evolved into a taco truck...
Chef Piaggio thrives in fusing his Argentine roots with the food culture of his adopted land. With Piaggio Gourmet on Wheels, he has taken the three main taste sensations from Argentina (the empanada, skirt steak and chimichurri), combined them with his expertise in cooking meats, and then blended all with the taco culture of California.
The result is that Piaggio on Wheels is delighting fans with taco, burrito and quesadilla creations, as well as introducing them to the lomito sandwich, the choripan made with traditional Argentine sausage, the chicken milanesa a caballo and the ever-popular chimuchurri sauce.
And because Piaggio likes to throw more taste into the mix, there is the occasional seafood rice made with octopus (Brazilian seafood paella), bolinhos de peixe with coconut milk (fish cakes), and the ensopada de peixe (seafood stew). And always...the empanada.
What's in store for the future...
For now, Piaggio is cooking up new delights every week for his loyal followers. The hardworking Piaggio on Wheels truck will be covering Orange County for lunch and late night, special events, and private functions.
Since Piaggio is an expert at pairing Argentine wines with food, he will be putting together unique food offerings and pairing them with special wines at your request.

Pet Prescription TeamWe all have important ideas, things we care about and want to share. Sometimes we think our ideas will change the world and want to let others know how they can join in and make all our lives better. The Pet Prescription Team not only is one of those ideas but was founded on one principle, to touch lives through Pet assisted therapy visits.
DogPACT -Also known as canine scent work, Nose Work trains dogs to identify the location of a "target" scent by using their natural sense of smell.
